Earthshinejournal is an independent publication exploring the places where Earth science, astronomy, space technology, natural events, and responsible travel meet.
What we publish
We write explainers that make a mechanism clear, practical guides you can act on, and reference pieces worth returning to. Our work falls into five areas: observing the night sky, Earth and space science, dark-sky and outdoor travel, camping and gear, and step-by-step how-to guides.
The goal is to make complex subjects understandable and useful without stripping out the context that makes them accurate.
Who we write for
Readers who want more than a headline and less than a journal paper. Someone planning a trip around a meteor shower, working out which gear matters for a cold night outdoors, or simply wanting to know why the sky does what it does. We assume curiosity, not a background in the subject.
Who is behind the publication
Earthshinejournal is an independent publication. Every article carries a named human author who is accountable for it. Our writers are listed on the authors page, where each contributor’s subject areas and published work are collected in one place. We describe what each writer covers, and we do not claim professional credentials they do not hold.
How we work
We prefer primary and authoritative sources: peer-reviewed research, government and space-agency publications, official datasets, original records, and direct expert material. Where a claim rests on a particular figure, date or study, we link to the source so you can check it yourself.
We separate confirmed facts from estimates, interpretation, and opinion, and we describe uncertainty rather than writing around it.
We show publication and update dates, and we correct material errors openly instead of quietly editing them away.
Research and editing tools may assist our process, but they are not authors and they are not sources. A human writer verifies every claim and takes responsibility for the finished article.
Editorial independence
Advertising, sponsorship, review products and affiliate arrangements never buy a conclusion. Any commercial relationship that could reasonably affect how you read an article is disclosed near that article. Our full position is set out in the Disclaimer and Disclosures.
Standards, corrections and contact
Our Editorial Policy sets out how we choose topics, source them, and review what we publish. Our Corrections Policy explains how to report an error and what happens next. If something here is wrong, incomplete or unclear, contact us and tell us.
